You and Astra head on down the continuation of the tunnel that has now
been revealed. Fortunately Astra does not set quite so punishing a pace as
before, and you are able to keep up. In fact, between some puffing on your
part (you really should try to give up your cigarette habit, but you need
to calm your nerves), you are even able to continue talking.
"You know, as a heroine of an adventure story, you have a couple of big points in your favour," you tell Astra. She gives you a suspicious look, apparently wondering if your double entendre was intentional. "Go on," she says. "I mean your bravery and quick-wittedness," you say hastily. You never find out what Astra's response to this would have been, because at that point she cries out: "There he is!" Sure enough, you catch a glimpse of Fred, before he disappears around a bend in the tunnel the best part of a hundred yards ahead. Perhaps he will lead you to the dragon, but you start to wonder whether that would really be such a good thing. Sure, Astra has Fred's sword and is a fearless warrior, but you have no weapon, and even if you had one you wouldn't have the first idea about how to use it. The nearest that you've come ever to a fight is playing shoot 'em ups on your PC. They don't even have guns here; only swords and spears and bows, and stuff like that. "Um, perhaps my idea of following Fred wasn't such a good one after all," you diffidently suggest. "Nonsense!" Astra carries on, and you carry on with her, because however dangerous that might be you feel that it is still safer than being on your own down here.
