The Disappointment

Fred looked worried. "That's not good. We might be deep in unexplored territory." He looked at the water. "And this lack of any life other than insects might mean there's no fish for us to try and catch." Then he brightened slightly. "At least we can have a swim and search for potential food."

Astra nodded and they both dived into the water, without bothering to remove their clothes. They took it in turns to dive under the surface. They could see a fair distance as the water was pretty clear. It almost meant that they could see the floor of the lake, though it was too deep for them to reach. All they could were various types of plant life and nothing else. There was no sign of any fish or any other sort of marine life. Fred had been proved right. They were both disappointed, but not too surprised. Astra suggested that they tried to see if they could reach the far shore of the lake, with the second objective of finding the outlet of the other river that flowed from the lake. By following this, possibly to its mouth, they might be lucky and find a settlement that might be able to help them.

1. Fred agreed and they swam on.
2. Fred disagreed. He had a different idea.
