The Never Ending Quest - Episode 3397

It hadn't taken Fred and Astra too long to get dry, thanks to the jungle heat, apart from Astra's long hair that is. Fred had put his clothes back on, and Astra had been delighted to find a branch suitable for use as a quarterstaff. Now they were reascending the stairway that the makers of the ancient pathways had installed in order to provide access to the lake.

Halfway up the stair, they saw that the apes which they had frightened away had not gone very far. They were clustered about the point where the stair joined the main walkway, jabbering excitedly and pointing at Fred and Astra.

  1. "Looks like we may have to fight our way through," Fred said. Astra nodded, and grasped her improvised staff more tightly.
  2. Then the apes seized the top of the stair and started rocking it. Fred and Astra tried to cling on.
  3. Then the apes seized the top of the stair and started rocking it. The top came away from the walkway and the stair began falling. Fred and Astra hoped they would come down in the lake.
