"Now you will understand better what the Dragon is like," Astra said, as Fred struggled with his torch. "He sees human beings as no more than his playthings. I would like to think that we could make good on your intention to find and kill him, but how are we to do that? As long as the Dragon is on dry land he is out of our reach. And it's likely that only the immediate vicinity of where we are has been flooded, so we're probably trapped here, and won't even be able to get out, never mind track down the Dragon."

"We'll find a way," Fred said, though in his heart he no longer felt very confident. Then he managed to get his torch alight. They could now see that:

  1. They were still in the flooded tunnel.
  2. The Dragon had transported them to a calm lagoon somewhere in the outside world. It was night and it was overcast, so that the torch was their only source of light.
