Freeing Astra the Mermaid

"No!" Astra said, very firmly. "It's bad enough having no legs, without finding out what it's like having no arms as well. Please try with your sword."

Without being able to brace himself, having no legs, Fred found it hard to get in a powerful blow, but eventually he succeeded in cutting through the chains holding Astra's wrists, at the expense of a nick in the blade of his sword.

1. Trying to keep the upper parts of their bodies above water, Fred and Astra swam off, followed by Velus.
2. At that point, they realised that the water level was dropping. Soon they were a merman, mermaid and dogfish out of water. (Dogfish have lungs, so at least Velus didn't suffocate.)
3. When the second chain was severed, Astra couldn't avoid briefly slipping further beneath the water before she righted herself, and as a result her "mer" portion expanded up almost as far as her breasts.
