I'd never have thought that my love was the maternal type, but when after a long moment we tear our gaze away from Dreamwalker and look at each other I see that she has the tenderest expression on her face. "She's absolutely adorable," Artizza says. "We've got to adopt her as our own, Fertal. We'll bring her up properly, and make sure that she doesn't get led astray a second time when she grows up."

Fortunately I feel the same way, something I would never have believed possible just a few short minutes ago. And from the smile on the baby's face, I get the impression that she is only too happy to take us as her parents. "That's settled then," I say.
