Fred retreated back towards the Great Kingdom to gather reinforcements and
discover what had happened in his abscence. He came upon a village, or
what had once been a village. The earth was charred, what had once been
huts and cabins were now nothing more than rubble outlined in squares,
circles and the occasional trapezoid. There were tools strewn about,
anvils, picks, shovels, and what looked to be a forge, now shattered and
useless. Fred could also pick out bones and flesh and parts of
decomposing corpses. Upon leaving the ghastly scene he tripped on a large
piece of wood. Fred picked it up and gave it a look-over. It was a sign,
carved in the King's Allarian. It read: Future site of the grand towne
of Coalspot. In smaller runes at the bottom it said: paid for by
the council of Mudspot and the committee for name-change.
Fred hurried down the trail that soon turned into a path which finally came to be a road at the bottom of the foothills. Fred saw that to his left and going westwards was the ancient Nelon Forest, to his right and going eastwards was a pathway (a sign read: this way to the Vale), and directly forward was King's Road. It would take some two weeks or so if he could get himself a horse to be back at Caemlyn, but on foot it could take over a month!
