"Well, nothing ventured..." Fred said, and he attempted to open the lock
on the right, the side with the carving of the shark. But it was
immediately obvious that the key would not fit. Fred and Astra tensed,
fearing that an alarm or booby trap might be activated, but nothing
seemed to happen. "I'll try the other side," Fred said.
This time the key turned easily in the lock, and a door opened, revealing the left-hand compartment.
