Counting Cobbles

Astra then lay down on the cavern floor. "I thought that it would be worth asking about. It seems that we have your dragon. I will try to get some sleep, if I can."

Astra stared at the cavern ceiling, counting embedded cobbles. She then heard a sweet, soft, soprano voice, calling out, and the echoes of the cavern serving as a refrain.

Anglideri. Anglideri.
Please come here. Please come here.
I need some excitement. I need some excitement.
Time creeps by. Time creeps by.

Astra then called out, "What are you doing? You'll attract the dragon."

"Sorry. I used to sing this on sentinel duty when I got bored, sometimes. Sitting out here and staring into darkness, I was reminded of those days, and wasn't thinking."

Astra counted cobbles once again, but still could not get to sleep.

"Checkers, could you start singing again, but not so loud? Do you know something that has nothing to do with dragons or fighting?"

"Sure, Astra." Checkers started singing, very softly.

Down in the meadow the wind blows softly
Whistling through the grass
Down by the creek the leaves fall slowly
And ripple the water's face

And I will walk happily
Free from all dark thoughts.
With no more care than to breathe the meadow air
And to bask in everlasting peace.

Astra drifted to sleep on this thought.

1. Checkers gets bored and decides to explore a little.
2. Lord Fred wakes up before Astra does.
