At least this would be easy, then. She would reach Eramni, where
she would be more or less unknown. Then, she'd escape from Turik
and find some kind of employment there--as long as she wasn't a
prostitute, an assassin, or a fortune teller--until she earned enough
money to leave. The Dragon was probably dead, as this was the
best explanation for her disappearance--everyone knew that draconic
magic items often released unpredictable curses after the death of
their creator. Then, she would make for Aqualaria, and then...
And then, she would have to marry Korval, someone she found utterly repugnant. He represented the worst things about politics to her. Not like Fred... She'd somehow concieved an utterly ridiculous passion for him when he'd rescued her. She'd mostly succeeded in ignoring it, but... Not only was he very attractive, he was clearly a man of honor. Another man from Allaria, where women were not nearly as respected as in her land, might have taken advantage of her. Fred did not. And he must have been a brave and noble man to succeed in killing the Dragon... [1] No, those thoughts were foolish. As repugnant as marrying Korval may have been, it was necessary. Fred appealed to the part of Astra which was a warrior, but to be the queen her people needed, she couldn't just be a warrior. She had to be a politician too, much as she despised it. The journey to Eramni was uneventful, at least at first. Turik made many attempts to engage her in conversation, but she ignored them all. [1]: Astra is unaware that, in fact, it was Korval who killed the Dragon. [6085]
