The Silver Medallion

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 30658

As she exercised, Astra reminded herself that at least two encouraging things had happened to her recently: she had her voice back and she was out of that accursed armour. How the latter had happened remained a mystery, for she could see no reason for Belboz to do it. Besides, he hadn't been present at the time, and she had formed the impression that he could not perform magic at a distance.

After completing her exercises, with little else to occupy her for the remainder of her four hour watch, Astra studied the contents of Belboz's laboratory. Most of the equipment meant nothing to her. Nor did the various bottled potions and herbs that were stored on shelves that ran the length of one wall. There were also several books but, fearing that they could be imbued with some fell magic, she did not open any of them.

Then she spotted something interesting, tucked away at the back of a high shelf as if it might have been left there and then forgotten. She could only see it herself because she was so tall. For Belboz, who in his human form was several inches shorter, it would be out of sight unless he used a set of steps. The object was a silver medallion of fine workmanship, mounted on a chain. The amount of tarnishing suggested that it was very old.

Curious, Astra picked it up and examined it more closely, hoping that it wasn't enchanted. To her surprise, she could see that engraved on the face of the medallion was what seemed to be a human being with wings. Surely it could only be a Glider? What was such a thing doing in Belboz's laboratory?

  1. Astra wondered whether the terms of her oath precluded her from showing the item to Checkers, who might perhaps be able to shed some light on it.
