A late afternoon storm seemed to have drifted in from the mountains to
the south, and distant bursts of lightning flashed
sporatically on the
darkened, not-too-distant horizon. The eerie silence that preludes a
storm was broken only by the wind that swept through the forested hills
and fueled the storm. Astra quickly spotted the bucket and cudgel, not
far from where her horse was 'stabled', and quickly made for the
crest of the hill by way of a well-used trail. The distance was not as far as she had expected, but Rufus was old, and this trek was probably a tiresome ordeal for him. Within a few minutes she arrived at the well, which was surprisingly well built and sheltered with a roof of wooden shingles supported by massive marble arches. Ornate, though weathered carvings adorned the stone arches above the well. Two shepherds were depicted fending their flock from a ravenous pack of wolves, with the Siblings smiling down on them from the heavens. She attatched the bucket to a rope and lowered it into the well. When she felt it hit the water she gave the crank on the well a tug in the opposite direction. The weight was much more than what she would have expected, and she found herself straining more than she would have liked to admit.
