Astra shuddered as she held the money in her hand. What had happened had frightened her, and the possible consequences scared her even more. She had heard legends of the such powers in her homeland. Once, in ancient days, it was said, an immortal sorceress known as the Pythia foretold futures in a vast cave the inhospitable mountain of Keiron in Aqualaria Cystirgia, one of the few notable things about that backwater southern region. But she was killed in the ancient wars between the people of Aqualaria and the long-dead nation of Tetrilonia, which the people of the Three Kingdoms and Frederigo's land of Allaria knew as the Great Empire. But she foretold that one day another Pythia would arise among the royal family of Aqualaria, and she would help make Aqualaria the supreme nation on Earth. Aqualaria had long ago given up its conquering ambitions, although not its warrior ways, and Astra was sure that she could not be the fulfillment of that prophecy. (Or perhaps she simply didn't want to believe it?) But her power seemed a difficult responsibility. And what would she do if she gave a prediction which her customer didn't particularly like which then came true? She might be blamed for it. She had heard legends of people with the Sight, and knew that such things had happened before. If she was not careful, she could be burned as a witch. She knew she had to leave before rumors of her actions spread too far.
