Andrea and the Dragon-like Animal

From the back of the sanctuary, Andrea heard a steady, low, rumbling sound. It was like the whistling of the wind through a long clothesline. Andrea slowly tiptoed to the source of the noise. It was a dragon!

Andrea's hands trembled. The form was unmistakable. Long snout. Large eyes - although these were closed. Long, cylindrical, snake- like body. Stubby paws. Long, powerful, lizard-like tail.

Andrea had her hand on the hilt of her dagger. Now over her initial fright, she noticed a few other things that did not jibe with her notion of a dragon. This creature was no larger than she was, male, and was covered with a fine, downy layer of dark gray hair instead of scales. It also had six legs instead of four - there were two forepaws that appeared to be somewhat finer-featured than the center and back sets. Andrea did not notice any smoke belching from the dragon's nostrils, and did not see any wings. These might be hidden from her view, however. Finally, the creature was sprawled out on its back, apparently fast asleep and completely vulnerable. Besides the "dragon" was a pack.

"It might be a good idea to get kill the creature, just to be safe," thought Andrea. "But it looks quite harmless, really. I could probably beat it in a fair fight."

Andrea's tactic is to

1. attack the creature before it could harm her.
2. investigate this place further, avoiding the creature.
3. investigate the creature and its pack further, without disturbing it.
4. waking the creature and seeing how it reacts.
