Another Bridge

"Something about the style of the column. I don't know. Like I said, maybe I'm just imagining it."

They went through the open doorway that led into the interior of the column. A spiral metal staircase led downwards. With no apparent alternative, they went down it. Fifty feet further down, they emerged onto another bridge, seemingly identical to the one which they had just left.

"I have the nasty feeling that we could spend the rest of our lives moving from one bridge to another, and never managing to reach the ground, " Fred said.

"I feel the same way. But we mustn't despair. That's what Dethelos would want...
