The Scenic Route Through Game 2

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 28919

The Doctor blinked (for a moment longer than usual, this was his mistake)...and found himself standing in the cool night air. A gentle wind rustled the dry autumn leaves that covered the ground. The sky was full of stars which illuminated the woods with their pale glow. His eyes slowly adjusted to the light.

He looked back and saw that behind him there was a small four foot by four foot by seven foot high wooden building. On the door (which was now closed) was a crescent moon shaped hole.

He barely made out a rough path leading up the hill, southward. To the west he could see what could be a house with lights on, but from this distance he couldn't tell for certain. To the east the terrain seemed to level off and the wood seemed less dense.

"Hmmm," said the Doctor, a little too calmly for one in his predicament! "That's odd. I really should have brought the Master along and sent him into the cafeteria first. Oh well, you can't change the past...err, I mean, without the TARDIS. Why am I engaged in a conversation with myself? Well, to give myself due credit, at least I'm not arguing with myself...hmm, or even worse, loosing an argument with myself. Indeed."

He shook his head and then turned his gaze toward the heavens. He cupped his hand around his mouth and let out a tremendous cry. "I say, Mr Chen! I know you didn't set that little trap in the cafeteria! I know you are not as omnipotent as you might otherwise lead us to believe! You can't phase me! You're dealing with a professional here!" This was partly a test to see if he could rouse Scott into displaying his true might. He really didn't know anything tangible about this game yet, or the power behind it. But he was now seperated from the entire group, this was obvious.

After relieving himself in the outhouse behind him, he decided that, as an immediate course of action, he would make for the house with it's lights on to the west. It was a little smelly around the crap-shack anyway, and anywhere else seemed like a better destination.

After walking for 30 minutes or so (who really knows in this universe), he saw a classic "Haunted House" lurking in a building ground fog. This seemed eeriely familiar! The house hadn't been painted in years, and the shutters hung at odd angles in disrepair. The yard was grown up and an old well stood in the side yard. A fence of rusted iron spikes surrounded the house and a swarm of large bats circled the bellfery. He thought he saw movement in the second and third story windows, but couln't tell if it is human or animal in nature. The soft glow of light spilled out of the windows and on to the front porch and illuminated the tall dead grass, making spirits seem to move to and fro in the evening breeze.

"Indeed," said the Doctor. With firm resolve he bounded up to the door and knocked three times. The door had a little plate that said "H. Lovecraft". It soon opened and Pamela Anderson stood before him. She invited him to come in out of the cold.

A noise from behind startled him, and he turned to see what it was. Only the deepening dusk was revealed, nothing moved. He turned back to the lady but was shocked to find a dalek standing in her place! The Doctor sighed. This Scott character sure knew how to push his buttons.

"SURR-ENDOR! SURR-ENDOR! YOU WILL O-BEY!" it squawked typically, it's gunstalk ready for business. "EX-TERM-I-NATE!"

That's when the Doctor had another idea. He blinked, but held his eyes shut for just a moment longer than usual. Lo and behold, his surroundings had changed! He was now in a janitor's closet, he assumed from the smell of chemicals that hung in the air, accented with a pungent hint of marijuana smoke (those scanners didn't detect everything). He fumbled about in the darkness and found the door. He looked around and realized he was back at the High School again!

He smiled broadly. "Splendid!"

  1. That's when it happened...
  2. Back to the Master...
