Fred Enters the Realm of the Bizzare

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 28906

After sliding down the tube for what seemed like an indeterminate amount of time, Fred finally came to rest at the bottom. After allowing his eyes to adjust to the gloom, Fred looks around and sees several people sitting in his chairs. What the hell is this? shouts Fred to the assembled group of several people. Those are MY chairs! Why did you steal them from my house and how did you get them down here? I demand some answers!

The assembled group of several people (three actually) give Fred a coy smile. The middle one rises and prepares to speak, but as he opens his mouth Fred's sword finished its slide down the tube. It slid past Fred and impales the standing man neatly through the chest. He gasps in pain, his eyes glaze over, and he falls over dead with a wet, bloody thud.

PLOP!

The other two individuals rise out of Fred's chairs and glare at Fred in undisguised horror and hatred. MURDERER! they shout in unison as they both point toward Fred.

Hey, says Fred, that wasn't my fault. You see, I was talking to Bruno the Bear. He pointed me toward a narow passageway where a hot gust of wind was blowing. He said I could find the dragon there. So I went down the tunnel, you see, but then I got swept up in a net and yanked down a steep tube. I lost my sword in the fall and had absolutely no control over it's descent. Therefore, you cannot blame me for what happened to your friend.

A likely story, say the two men as they stand over their dead commrade. A talking bear? Narrow tunnels too small for a bear but where large reptilian dragons supposedly live? Magical nets that cast knights down tubes? Balderdash! we say!

Hey! says Fred in his own defense. What about you guys! Huh! Those are my chairs! You stole them! What have you got to say about that?

The two men reply: Please take a closer look at the chairs, sir knight. You will see that they were made by Joachim the Woodsmith in the king's own village. You see, it bears his mark. He makes all the furniture for village residents, and no doubt you obtained your own chairs from him. As you also know, good old Joachim has little imagination and makes all his chairs of the same style. They all look alike. We stole nothing, and your chairs are still in your home in the village.

Fred looks sheepish for making such a stupid mistake.

Now, say the two men, about our murdered friend. We demand that you do penance for killing him. If you refuse, we shall report you to the king and demand justice for his murder. What say you, sir knight?

  1. Fred agrees to do penance and listens as the men give him instructions
  2. Fred is still upset that the men do not believe his story and tells them to bugger off
  3. Fred challenges the men to battle but then realizes his sword is still stuck in the dead man's chest
  4. Fred runs away and takes his chances as a fugitive from justice
