Meanwhile, in the classroom, things were surprisingly quiet, the students
having learned their lesson. (Well, not in a literal sense, but you
know...) The boorish boy was still glaring at Dayanara and people were
still muttering things about the new people, but for now they were
ignoring the companions and vice versa.
"Man, I hate waiting around while other people are doing things," said TW. "I didn't know being a hero would be quite this aggravating." "Well, we could certainly look around the room for potentially useful objects," said KR. "I mean, this is a game, so it's probably a good idea to look under everything." "That is odd. I did not notice these backpacks here when we arrived," said Dayanara. There were, indeed, backpacks beside their desks now, presumably theirs. "Perhaps these contain something useful." "They've probably just got high school textbooks. That's about as far from useful as we can get," said TW. "But I guess it's worth a look." He pulled his backpack up. Or tried to. However hard he pulled it, he just couldn't lift it. KR and Dayanara came to his aid and, with considerable effort accompanied by the laughter of their classmates, lifted it up to the desks. "Man, they make these textbooks heavier every year," said KR. When TW opened his backpack, he found what had made it so heavy.
