"That's very sweet of you," said Karen. The next day Fred got up his
nerve to see Karen at lunch. He was afraid that the previous day was a
fluke and that she wouldn't be there. But, sure enough, there she was
waiting for him at lunch. She even waved him over to her table. "Hey!" she said in a perky tone that made Fred wonder what she was hiding. Fred smiled in return. He knew it was always safer to say nothing. They had a better conversation than the day before. Karen complimented him on being a great listener. As they were about ready to go back to work, Karen smiled. "I like this lunch idea. I thought it was sweet. But what kind of date do you really have in mind?" Again, Fred's mind raced. He knew that girls wanted him to be himself, but that he didn't have any ideas left.
