Insanity it surely was. That damn picture of Lots just kept on looking
while the sacrifice was prepared. Astra picked up a breastplate that had
recently been used as an improvised frying pan. "Please hold still while
I clobber you with this," she told Khrusti. "I'm not a cruel woman, and
there's no need for you to be conscious when I cut out your heart with a
blunt object - although on second thoughts, perhaps it would be better to
use my dagger."
"No," said Fred. "In the Duchy of South Umbria the priests switched from blunt objects to sharp objects and, well, you know what happened!" Astra looked at Fred blankly. "Actually, Fred... I don't. It's not like we study the socio-religious events of chauvenist societies or anything." "Well," said Fred. "Look, I don't wan to get into a long treatise on the effects and influences of Faith, Reason, and Blunt Objects, but the point is there is no South Umbria anymore! It's gone, erased, forgotten, and the hole that is left isn't even good enough for a tourist site!" Astra was stunned. "What do you mean gone? It can't just have disappeared due to quicker, cleaner, less painful human sacrifice, could it?" "Damn, woman!" growled Fred frustrated at her questioning every word he says. "Gone means gone, or must I bring out a handy-dandy treatise on diction!?! The conversion from blunt to sharp objects within the sacrifical rites was accompanied by a great cataclysm which resulted in terrific geologic upheaval and the sinking of the duchy into the earth!" "Really?!!?" said Astra. "Bloody hell!" roared Fred. "Why don't you believe me?" "Well, said Astra a bit taken back by Fred's outburst but still holding her ground. "First, you are a man. Second, you are an Allarian. Third, you do tend to exagerate. Fourth--" "Alright!" shouted Fred. "You made your point, now let's just get this over with!" Unfortunately by this time Khrusi had disappeared. Not literally, of course. He had ran away. But not before hitting poor Velus over the head with the greasy breastplate knocking him unconscious, and writing a note: sorry but besides my utter distaste for my own death in the cause for others' safety I detest congealed fish oil... messes with my hair." Insanity it surely was. Fred and Astra arguing over everything, Velus conked out and bleeding from a head wound***, and Khrusti not interested in the self-sacrifice needed for the human sacrifice that would make the world a better place (atleast from Fred, Astra's, and Velus' point of view). Jeesh, when people are the playthings of the gods, they may not always act altogether rationally. ***you were waiting for this, weren't you, you sick SOBs! the only reason you picked this episode because it was labeled the "bloody version"... what kind of whackos are you?!? but I tricked you! Bwahahahaha! Now, off to get my lunch: steak and potatoes... make that two steaks... rare and juicey... yummmmmm
