A device suddenly appeared in the Master's hand. Brightly painted, bulky,
and made out of incongrously flimsy-looking molded plastic, it looked
exactly like the BBC props department's idea of a Death Ray. The Master
grinned a feral grin and stroked the gadget's barrel. "Excellent!" he
said. The Doctor gave him a look of annoyed exasperation. "And what exactly are you planning on doing with that, hmm? Killing us all in our sleep? As I've already explained once, winning this game rather depends on all of us getting out alive!" "Yes, perhaps," replied the Master, completely unruffled. "But one never knows when a Death Ray might come in handy." "Wait a minute," said the younger Adrian, who still hadn't had things explained to him. "What game? What are you talking about?" Ragan sighed. "All right, here we go again..." By the time the second round of explanations had finished, it had grown very late, indeed. "I hope no more of you are going to show up," Ragan said as she finished, "because I'm ready to go to bed." "But you never finished your beer," said Dayanara. "Ah, that bit about wanting a beer was mostly just a figure of speech," said Ragan. "I'm not all that much of a beer drinker, really. You have it. As for me..." A sudden thought apparently crossed her mind. "I want a sleeping bag!" Nothing happened. Ragan looked disappointed. "Great. The Master used up all the mojo on his Death Ray. Guess we're all sleeping on the cold, hard ground. 'Night all!" She moved off from the fire a short distance and curled up on the ground. After a while, Dayanara and the Adrians followed suit, leaving the Doctor and the Master still sitting by the fire. "So. Shall we have a sing-along?" asked the Doctor cheerfully. The Master growled at him. "No, I suppose not." Silence fell again, broken only by the sound of crickets and the occasional hoot of an owl. Eventually, the Doctor, too, nodded off.
