A Dragon Maturing Into the Fullness of His Power

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 28082

"In truth, Lord Fred, I know little, other than he is a dragon maturing into the fullness of his power."

Belboz smiled warmly at Fertal, genuine interest mirrored in his glossy grey eyes. "What makes you say that, elfling?"

"The omens have been obvious to any hapless soul with a keen mind and sharp eye for many seasons," Fertal replied appropriately. "It is not unlike certain, misled dragons to seek the level of godhood, reaking chaos and havoc on catastrophic levels all the while. Minestus has ever had his mind on schemes grander than he can handle."

Belboz chuckled, and eyed the rest of the entourage with fierce curiousity. "Indeed." He turned away from them and went to a dusty iron casket wrought in the image of one of the old Tetrilonian princes, located in another corner of the room, and as he did so he seemed to move about with amazing swiftness for one so aged.

Fred remembered the oath he had given his dying mentor, the Marshall of Suffex. It had been his last wish, that Fred undertake the task he had so miserably failed before the dragon waxed further in strength. The Marshall, in his later years, had become convinced that taking on a wyrm was a job best left for a single champion of virtue.

It was rumored in some circles in the city of Bannock and the great house of Monteforte that the Marshall had taken a fancy to the old tales, and that maybe they had gotten to his head a little more than what was good for him. One man vs. a dragon!? These were not the glorious days of the HighKing, when heroes seemed to spring up from every hamlet and vale. But in these dire times, when every year it seemed the Great Kingdom weakened while Minestus thrived, such far flung ideals suddenly seemed feasible.

Fred turned his attention back to Fertal. "You speak truth," he admitted. "Very well, you look like a formidable lot, I'll admit that. You may accompany me on MY Quest...on one condition; the killing blow to that smelly old worm must be from MY blade! Simple enough? But before I agree to even that, let me hear your great plan to defeat the mighty Minestus. And also...you wouldn't have a map that shows two entrances, would you? Or just any map of this hellhole drawn within the last fifty years? I'll trade you mine..."
