Naomh

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 27887

A mist rose as Fred walked the ten miles towards Coyle's castle. It was cold and oddly blue tinted and even with his immense height Fred had difficulty finding his way. With his strides it should have taken him only a few minutes to reach Coyle but after an hour he had gotten no further and felt utterly exhausted, his anger entirely spent. Collapsing to his knees he thought of his gruesome murder of Prince Eachan and wept at the terrible crime he had commited towards an innocent, no matter how unpleasant. For a long moment he knelt there wondering what would happen to him as his body gradually returned to its normal proportions. At lenght purpose came: he would surrender himself to King Coyle and have whatever punishment his monarch thought fit. Resolved he was just about to leave when a voice stopped him.

"Halt Frederick, Count of Hurdleford, Lord of Guthrie"

A beautiful young woman stood in the middle of the path, the swirling mist somehow parted so as to reveal her clearly. Long ash blonde hair was partly hid by the hood of the blue robes she wore and intelligent green eyes sparkled out at Fred. When she spoke her voice had an odd musical hilt - though he could not place her accent - and felt soothing. She could not have been more that twenty three yet something told him that she was very powerful. Not to be messed with. "Who are you?" he managed "and how do you know who I am - especially in my current state?"

She smiled. "You may call me 'Naomh' Lord Fred and has for your second question I can only tell you that I am a witch. I am here to implore you not to go to the court of King Coyle."

"I must. I murdered his son. Justice and honour demand I surrender myself to his justice."

Naomh looked at him sadly. "My Lord I know why you killed Eachan mac Coyle. It was the blue potion that caused your change and poisioned your mind. You are innocent of crime."

"Yet Eachan remains dead at my hand and I remain a monster." was Fred's calm reply. "How can I ever clease my guilt?"

Naomh looked down a moment lost in thought, then stared at him strangely sadly. "There is a way to bring the prince back. You must seek out the wizard Tarlach in Dun Dímmai who know's the secret paths to the Afterworld. He can bring Eachan back again.

"I'll do it then" said Lord Fred without a seconds hesitation. Standing up tall and proud, he walked away through the parting mists. For long seconds Naomh watched him go, then said a word in the language of magic and vanished.
