Fred felt his blood chill as the rumble became a roar, one all too
familiar to him--that of a Dragon. He desperately cut through Amy's
bonds (for his mystic Dragonslayer sword was enchanted to cut
through chains that were themselves enchanted) as he heard the
roar grow louder. The roar then became a throaty, wicked laugh like
that of the Devil himself.
Once the laughter died down, Fred saw that his surroundings had changed. The clearing had been replaced by dense jungle through which Fred could barely see anything beyond himself and the woman, now no longer tied to the pillar but clinging to him in fear, her uneasiness forgotten. Yet he could hear things around him. He could hear the crying of jungle birds and the growl of predators. Several times, he heard shuffling behind him, but when he looked there was nothing there. "Where are we?" blurted out Fred, although he knew very well that Amy could not know the answer--or could she? "I--I don't know! This happens, it... Every day this happens to me. I don't know where on the island am anymore. I think it's trying to drive me mad. The only other human beings I see here are madmen. They're--I--" She stopped speaking and burst into tears. Fred wondered if she was afraid that he, too was mad--or was she mad herself? Or even an evil spirit...
