The Never Ending Quest - Episode 27356

To avoid offending MSG and the others, this thread is assumed to exist in an entirely different timeline from the rest of the Saga. While connected to the rest of the mileu by the preceding episode, at no point again does it connect to the official version of the proceedings.

"Trap?" Annafrid said tersely "What do you mean, you set it off? Can you hurry up and unset it?"

"I'm afraid not." Jarlath coughed embarassedly. "It looks like we're pretty screwed."

The chest began to swing open. Velus barked in alarm. Astra 9 went for her sword, Tarin Gazin for his ax. Jenny Elf, for her part, screamed in horror, as she had already recognized the true nature of what was inside the box.

Pure dark shadow seemed to spill out from within the chest, filling the cave. All light sources went out, and the group was plunged into total darkness. They heard laughter - not happy Ha Ha laughter, or even a sardonic Ho Ho laughter, but laughter of a sort no one in the group, not even Annafrid, had heard before. All that was evil and impure, dark and unholy, was contained in that sound - the pain of the torture chamber, the horror of the killing field, the scream of countless dying worlds. To hear it was to see a thousand nightmares flash before your eyes. Even the near- immortal Eternal Champions assembled that day couldn't help but quake to feel an evil of this magnitude surrounding them with its snaking tendrils of darkness. Velus barked furiously, when suddenly he yelped in agony and was heard no more. Then everyone heard Jarlath scream in pain, followed by the lengthy crunching of bone. "What's going on?!" AStra 9 yelled, and then she too shrieked in pain - Tarin, Jenny, Annafrid, Lueoth and Ia'Dore heard a sound like a balloon popping, except this one popped with a wet juicy sound. "Ohmigod, ohmigod!" Jenny Elf gasped. She had been standing next to Astra, and she was now covered in something wet, warm and sticky. Somewhere she heard the others screaming as they died.

"What are you?!" Jenny cried out. She was completely numb now, resigned to death, but only... curious. "What do you want?!"

"I want to destroy all the petty, impermanent things you hold so dear. I want you to die." growled a voice deep and ancient, terrifying in the extent of hatred within.

"It's because of the dragon..." Jenny thought. "It's because of his experimentation with interdimensional travel - it must have somehow created this monster! Tarin, wait for me..." and then the darkness engulfed her and she was gone.

  1. Bummer!
