Elf Experienced

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 27339

Fertal

"Yes, we do make a rather unexpected sight," I quip. "But be that as it may, all of us are rather more experienced with 'dragon slaying' business, mage."

Though it appears that this necromancer -- can smell the death magic from even here -- had not seen that, having apparently underestimate us, seeing only the humans and ignoring the elves!

Yes, it does occur to me that one other thing that might lead Belboz to underestimate us Champions is that Astra 9 still only looks 18, though now some years older in reality. Belboz must be wondering at her similarity in appearance to this world's Astra, though. (As must Fred and Checkers.)

Belboz might assume that Astra 9 is "his" Astra's younger sister.

Still, even with fair dues given, I don't really care for his tone!

"Some even have 'hands on' experience," I add, hiding a small wince as I say that.

Yes I for one have a LOT of hands on, alas. Like my analog brother, Gilmuriel, I too had slain a rather large amount of dragons (probably a record back home)…only to find out in the end that dragons needn't necessarily be vile beasts.

Well, I console myself that the dragons within my new family are understanding enough and even help me to "get over' the intense guilt I felt.

Never imagined I'd ever….

Nevermind. The past is behind me….yet another thing I shan't miss while I had been human. Seems that coming into my rightful form was almost a sign from on High, linking me into a new life. I shall do what I can to repay for this second chance, gladly.

Which, ironically, seems what Providence (though this Quest the Celestrials have laid before us) has bestowed upon us. It would seem….I and the others have another dragon to kill.

Sigh. All that stuff aside….while interesting enough, I am sure….

That doesn't help the rankled feelings I already have towards this necromancer, who's done us elves the discourtesy of ignoring us like….!

Well, you get the idea.

"Fey elves," Belboz whispers, with a trace of surprise (and perhaps dread) in his voice.

"Hew-maahn!" Artizza drawls out, mimicking Belboz a bit (more like lampooning).

…..

Well now. At least he's deemed us worthy of something

"Yes, elves on a an elfquest neutralize the threat of a dragon," I quip (drawing a grown from Jenny), giving into an urge that I'd since outgrown (mostly) from childhood.

You should listen to my analog brother, Manfox Fred! Now he!…..

<Could you give girl warning before you pun like that! Jenny *sends to me, traces of bemusement and annoyance lacing every word/concept/idea.

Yes, Jenny Elf did hale from a world that mimicked a black and white comic book by the name Elfquest by Wendy and Richard Pini and though she'd done a stint in the pun filled land of Xanth (a reality mimicked by Piers Anthony's Xanth series), she'd rather not cared for that in joke!

"Now," I finish up, crossing my arms and looking up at the old man before me, "you say you've lived in the shadow of this dragon. Mind if perhaps you could share some insight on him so to make our job easier. OH, and yes we shall continue on our course, because anything less would not only be dishonorable….but foolish."

I deliberately fail to mention just why that last part was true. Too early for such like that, yet.

* - Sending is a superior form of mental communication particular to those elves who hale from Elquest's The World of Two Moons. It's a combination of telepathy and empathy that shares in full what the elf actually is saying, instead of relying on clumsy and incomplete verbal means us humans are stuck with (for the most part).

  1. Meanwhile, while the Fred and Astra of this world suddenly feel a warm (unexpected) flow of feelings towards these elves (the doppleganger effect, instant kinship love) Belboz is wondering just how things just got so out of control!
  2. Minestus, in the guise of Belboz, schemes ...
