I entered the activation code and waited a few minutes for the scanners to
warm up. Scanning the lifeboat I found nothing. Nada. Thinking that the
scanners might be on the blink again, I scanned the lifeboat again. Still
nothing. I frowned. Strange. Someone must have activated that distress
beacon. I used the magnetic grapples to manually dock to the lifeboat. I entered the small passage through the docking port, the door of my ship - the Princess Astra - closing behind me. While I waited for the pressure to equalise, and the light above the lifeboat's door to turn green, I wondered what I would find there. The light turned green, the door opened, and I entered the lifeboat. With laser pistol drawn, I entered the small cabin that was laughingly known as the bridge. No-one home. I found the reason for the distress beacon being activated - a short circuit. In fact, as I looked around the four small cabins connected to the central corridor that along with the control cabin made up the interior of the lifeboat. There were no life-forms, living or dead. All I found was more shorts, and I suspected that the actual launching of the lifeboat had been in error. Seeing these short circuits, I now remembered the race it belonged to - the Renubians. The Renubians were well known as a race fond of carefree engineering, and their ships were always requiring assistance. How ever they managed to become a space-faring race was one of the Galaxy's greatest mysteries. I returned to the Astra and upon disconnecting the lifeboat continued on. Weston II awaits!
