We're Here To Rescue You!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 26565

Betty

We burst through the console room and out the TARDIS doors. Immediately, we're hit by an intense wave of heat. Yowza, it's a really good thing we left the Sebaceans behind. Two seconds under these conditions, and it'd be terminal heatstroke for them.

I try to ignore the discomfort and concentrate on the task at hand. The distraction group, consisting of D'Argo and the elves, is already hard at work. Running around, firing off phaser or qualta-rifle blasts, then disappearing quickly only to pop up somewhere else a few seconds later. It seems to be working, too. The Pharoh's people are running around, shouting contradicting orders, and generally looking very confused.

By virtue of the fact that I'm the only one who knows where we're going (assuming, that is, that my notorious lack of a sense of direction doesn't let us down), I'm the one leading the charge. "This way!" I call, running as fast as I can in this oppressive heat towards the slave pens.

Fortunately for me, they're not hard to find, and in the chaos my compatriots have created, they've been left toally unattended. In a few mintues, we have the gate open and are face-to-face with about a hundred dirty, rag-clad humans peering at us with frightened faces. I realize they're staring at Talok's large, toothy reptilian form, and motion him to back off a little and lose the triumphant we're-here-to-rescue-you stance. Hell, I'd find that intimidating.

The slaves still don't move.

"What are you waiting for!" It's Stark. He leaps up onto a rock and raises his hands in a dramatic gesture. "You're free! Free! We've set you all free!"

Crichton mutters something under his breath about Moses.

The slaves turn and look at each other for a moment in obvious confusion, then all at once, they begin stampeding for the gate. We all leap out of the way. Zhaan has to catch Stark as he tumbles from his rock.

"You've got to get out of here!" Talok shouts as they hurtle by us. "This place is going to be destroyed! There's an escape tunnel. That way!"

The mob rushes off in more or less the right direction. I'd kind of like to send somebody along to make sure they get there OK, but it's not far to the escape tunnel, and there will be people there to guide them in, so I try not to worry. As for us, we're not through yet.

  1. We've still got to rescue the prisoners inside the pyramid.
