As the column of light flickered out, Fred saw that the corridor had changed greatly. The torches on the wall had long died out and the walls seemed covered by rust. Fred shuddered as he began to wonder just how long he'd spent in the pillar.
The light then faded, leaving Fred in total darkness. The woman, however, seemed to glow with a faint phosphorescent light. OK, that does it, thought Fred. This job is just getting to weird. As soon as I get back to Kingsopolis, I'll hand in my resignation. Thankfully, Fred had some torches, and lit them, casting a weak light throughout the corridor. Well, at least there was a beautiful woman with him, even if she was a bit scary. He turned toward her, racking his brains for something to say. "Um, hi?" he finally ventured, feeling like an idiot the minute he'd said it. "My name's Fred, Lord Fred. Who are you?"
