Fred's Imperfect Idea

Fred laid his hand on his shoulder. "Let's think before acting," he said. "To rush in there would be suicide. Trolls are living rock, and our swords would be useless on them."

"Are you saying there's nothing we can do?" Velus asked, appalled.

"Not at all. Trolls' big handicap is that they freeze up in daylight, and we must try to take advantage of that. We'll burn down the inn. Trolls aren't impervious to fire, and so they'll have to come out. Then they'll freeze."

"But if we do that, we risk killing Nixy in the process," Cederik pointed out.

"Well, if you - or anyone else - has a better idea..." Fred responded.

1. Nobody did, so they set fire to the inn, using the tinderbox from Fred's pack.
2. Somebody did.
