Into the Inn we Go

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 25786

And so Fred, Astra, Velus, Will, Phil, and Lil entered the mainway of the Enterprising Inn. Within it was much darker than outside for the windows were all covered with dainty cloth shades painted in esoteric colors. The place wasn't ominous, it was homey. Fred immediately went to the bar while Astra followed with Velus in her arms. The three members of the staff skipped after the three heroes.

The bartender was a tall man, a caucasian with long green hair. His arms rippled with muscles and the shirt which he wore seemed almost to be ready to burst asunder from those mighty muscles.

"Hi!" he said. "You can call me Mister M, I'll be your barkeep today, how may I serve you?"

Astra couldn't keep her eyes off him, he was an exquisite specimin of a man, more powerful than any northerner and more noble than any southerner she had ever laid eyes on. "I'll have a pitcher of your best beer," she said.

"Well, Astra," said Fred. "It's nice for you to order for the group, but I prefer ale."

Astra looked at Fred with a queer look on her face. "Order for the group? The pitcher is for me, Freddy!" And then she giggled.

"Well, uh, ahem..." mumbled Fred. "I mean, of course... uh, barkeep--"

"You can call me Mister M," interrupted the barkeep.

"Yes, uh, Mr. M I'll have an ale... um, better yet, a pitcher of your best ale!" ~~and hope I don't get sick by night's end! can Astra really drink that much?!!?~~

The barkeep stared then at Velus who was seated on a bar stool. "And you my fine youngling, what would you have?"

"Uh," broke in Fred who still intended to keep the farce that Velus was just a dog. "He's just a dog, he can't talk."

The barkeep gave Fred a blank stare. Then Phill tapped Fred on the shoulder. "Um, this is a bit awkward, but you see this dog is no mere specimin of canine. This is an enchanted youth, a human transmutated into this four-legged form. And he can talk."

"How do you know that?" yelped Velus.

"Silly boy," said Lil with a trill to her beauteous voice. "You may look like a pup but you smell like a human!"

"Coulda fooled me," murmured Astra with a smile.

  1. What's this? The staff's olefactory senses can pick out humans from animals? What else do these Inn keepers have up ther sleeves... or should I say, up their noses?
