Astra decided that it was time for another lie. She did not know whether
the blob creature posed a threat to her, but it seemed prudent to assume
the worst, so a big dollop of flattery was called for.
"My name is Astra, O Great One. I am a human being. I am sorry to have disturbed you, but I have come here to worship you, for surely you are as a god." "I see. Thou art quite right that I am a god, of course. But why confine thyself to worshipping me when thou couldst become part of me? Wouldn't thou wish to become a part of a god, Astra?" Astra didn't like the way this was going, especially when the nearest strand of flesh detached itself from the cave wall and started snaking in her direction. "But if you'd let me, I could go and bring you back three other living creatures like me," she said desperately. "They are not too far away. Perhaps one of your tentacles could force open the trapdoor far up in the ceiling, so that I could go up and fetch them." Of course, she did not mention that she had no idea of how to find them, and in any case had no intention of bringing them here.
