Financial Exigency

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 2496

Fred asks Dilbert what is going on. "Why work when we have a meeting in five miutes?" asks Dilbert.

Five minutes later, Dilbert, Wally, and Tina show up at a conference table dragging Fred with them. "We're going to use Fred to take notes," Wally explains. They hand Fred a legal pad and plunk him at the table. In marches the boss with the pointy bits of hair on his head, Catbert the evil human resources manager, and several other suits.

"Uh-oh," whispers Trina, "looks like trouble." Fred starts to take notes. He wonders what the words "downsizing," "re-engineering," and "financial exigency" mean. After the meeting he decides to ask.

"It means that Dilbert, Wally, and Trina are all fired and have one hour to clean out their desks and leave the premises," cackles evil Catbert, well...evilly.

"It's due to financial exigency of course...." Catbert is positively purring.

  1. Dilbert explains that he thought the company was having a booming year.
  2. Wally and Dilbert ask Fred to help them put a virus in the company's computer as a parting gesture.
  3. Trina explains that since Fred no longer has a site supervisor, he is no longer a co-op and he had better catch the Greyhound bus back home.
  4. Fred remembers his terrible swift sword and knows how to make short work of Catbert and all the suits.
