"Thank you." Fred said. He lay down and closed his eyes. He was tired.
While he was still worried about Eritrea's true intentions, as well as the
presence of additional dragons in the cave, he realized it was no longer
his problem. It had been Fred's quest to destroy the Dragon, not his mate
and their dozens of homicidal offspring. And even if Fred wanted to
continue dragon-slaying, he was in no condition to do so. Perhaps once he
had gotten more used to his new body, obtained better fitting equipment,
and learned more from Eritrea - but for now he would be glad just to get
out of these caves, to see the sun again. Fred yawned and quickly drifted
off into a dreamless slumber. Well, not entirely dreamless - he did have a
rather vivid vision of red-haired Eritrea in a pantherskin bikini. But
that was beside the point. When Fred woke up, Eritrea was looking at him strangely. "Are you allright? I think I heard you saying 'mmmm' in your sleep and calling my name." The knight turned girl blushed crimson. "Um... uh... I had a dream about... uh... a grand feast! Yeah, and you were there." "I guess you really haven't had a good meal in a while!" Eritrea grinned. "Maybe once we get out of these caves we can hunt down some pheasant or elk before parting ways." "That sounds great!" Fred said. They gathered their belongings and started walking. After a while Eritrea asked. "So, what is it you intend to do with all that gold, anyway? You told me you used to be a Knight of Allaria - so why are you heading to Aqualaria? Do you have another quest there?" "Didn't I mention my companion, Velus? He saw me killing the witchwoman who had possessed my body, and assumed I was the villain. Now, I fear to return to Allaria lest I be burned at the stake." "I see." Eritrea said. "But still, being a noble knight, surely you still intend to fight evil and protect the innocent and things like that - right?" "Well, should the opportunity arise, I will do my best. But I hope I won't have to worry about anything like that for at least a little while." They were passing through a wide and tall cavern. The ceiling stretched far above them, and there were many huge openings up there, big enough to fit many people climbing shoulder to shoulder. Fred had a bad feeling about those openings. Eritrea suddenly motioned for him to stop. "Do you hear that?" "Hear what?" But then Fred heard it too, a rumbling sound from above that grew louder and louder. Then the roar of a Dragon! It was so loud pebbles came raining from the ceiling. "Oh no!" Eritrea gasped. "She's found me!" "Who's found you?!" Fred asked, feigning ignorance. "The Dragoness! She's after me - she's come to get her egg back!" "Her egg? What are you doing with a Dragon's egg?!" Fred said. "I assure you it's not for any evil purpose!" Eritrea cried. "I need it to save my people and... oh no! Here she comes!" Out of one of the holes above came hurtling a massive green Dragoness, cawing with hatred, eyes fixed directly on Eritrea!
