Fred was so sure that he had been locked in that he did not even bother to
try the door. It seemed unlikely that Reaibn would have left anything in
the room that could be of any use to him, but being the methodical type he
determined to search it thoroughly anyway.
He began with the desk. On it were some sheets of what Fred decided must be writing paper, though they were of far higher quality than the thick, pulpy, yellowing sheets that he was familiar with. In one of the drawers, he found a strange writing implement. It was nothing like the quills that he was used to, but had its own supply of ink somehow built in. The ink flowed out of a tiny hole in the point at the end when the point was applied to the paper, making a remarkably thin line that seemed to dry immediately and so was resistant to smudging. It would be a great boon to all scribes and scholars.
