While the Deltumnimus slept its sleep of heightened awareness and
traversed the ultraregions of the seventh dimension, its minions had
accomplished its last command with spectacular vision: while I roam the
dark and the light, the elsewhere and undonetime, you must see that my
Dominion does not fall... The command was direct, simple and clear.
The Beast's Inner Circle acted even as their Master settled down in
the most protected lair of its demesyne. The Three divied up spheres of
influence, contacted the appropriate subterannean power-mongers, and took
stock of expenses, regresses, supplies and riches. Though most within the hierarchy of the Dragon quarreled amongst themselves, their selfish natures overriding any need for communal strength, the Three did not suffer so. They knew their place... and they relished it. Of the three, one was given the task of pretending to be the Dragon if it became neccesary - that task fell to the greatest Pretender within the Southern Caves: Minestus. As to what Minestus really was, only Deltumnimus knew. Many whispered that he was a Minor Wyrm with great magicks, while others sneered that he was an elven DarkLord. Minestus' Companions of the Inner Circle did not waste time pondering, they simply accepted that he was what he chose to appear to be. They each had their place within the Dominion of the Deltumnimos: Pretense, Might, Foresight... Minestus, Skarelyn, Oudubai. Most recently Minestus was pretending to be a human mage by the name Belboz. He had already showed itself as the Dragon to the human Astra, and this misinformation had driven her to a terror most intense... to the great pleasure of Minestus. Yet during this time he had come across a creature not of this land, a glideri. Its abilities interested the Pretender, as did this game of cat and mouse. Even now he was watching the creature called Checkers as it faced three of the unseelie kobolds. Minestus was hoping Checkers would survive this encounter, but he had his doubts. Checkers was weak, her wing still in much pain. She glanced up to her guide Belboz and thanked the stars for his wisdom. She looked about the cave in which she found herself; barrels of earth, the still-burning corpse of the kobold, and apparently nothing else. It was just too dark for her eyes to see clearly. Without her lantern this disability became only worse. Then she heard noise, distinct noises, looking away from the small fire she spied movement, the same size and shape as the kobold she had just killed. She had no spear, no lantern, no nothing. The flickering, wavering light from the burning corpse shed some detail on the scene. The three figures were indeed of the same Kinde. They were small, only some two feet in height. Dark black skin covered their frames only poorly, as the skin was very dry, almost dessicated it seemed. Two had knotted hair white as clouds while one was completely bald. Their lips, grey in the eerie light, pursed and they began to shriek! Not having any other weapon, she grabbed a fistful of books and touched them to the still burning kobold. Once they alighted she threw them at the three creatures hoping to kill them, or at least scare them away.
