The door opened slowly, and Fred and Astra were surprised
to see Velus sitting with his back to them in front of
something that looked like one of these complicated games
the king liked to play. It wasn't a game board, though.
For one, game boards are usually horizontal to keep the pieces
from falling off - this one was sloping towards them at an angle.
Besides there were so many game pieces (or whatever they were)
on the board that there wasn't anywhere left to move. That
didn't really matter, though, as the pieces appeared to be attached to
the board but could still move slightly.
Velus was just lifting a paw from one of the pieces, which he apparently had just pushed forward. On a sudden impulse he put down his paw and pulled the piece towards him. There was a soft click, and the door started closing again.
