Looking for Melissa

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 23828

Fred looked at the footprints closely. They didn't seem to belong to Melissa - instead they seemed to have been made by some sort of heavy steel-shod boots. Fred hurried to follow them, running through the twisting tunnel passageway, lit by the phosporescent fungi and 'shrooms. To his horror, he soon came across Melissa's wet clothes - but no Melissa. The worst suspicions racing through his brain, Fred burst around the corner.

He gazed upon a small, yet cozy cavern, furnished with some of the strangest objects Fred had ever seen. In the middle of the room stood what Fred first took to be a man in full plate armor.

"Hey you!" Fred exclaimed. "What have you done with Melissa?!"

The being turned around, and Fred realized it wasn't human. It's knee and elbow joints were far too thin to hold a man inside, and it's beady eyes glowed with unholy red light. Two antenna over it's head crackled with some strange energy. Fred suddenly wished he had grabbed his sword earlier instead of his pants.

"The same thing I'm going to do to you." the being said in a loud, scratchy tenor. "I am Borgatron. And it's quite convenient that you delivered yourself to me! It spares me the trouble of hunting you down myself. Melissa has been really worried."

Borgatron stepped aside, and Fred saw Melissa sitting there on a big red couch. She was shivering, but had a thick fluffy blanket wrapped around herself. "Fred!!" she said happily. "I'm so glad you're okay! Borgatron here rescued me. He's a robot - isn't that cool? I didn't even know robots existed!"

Borgatron sat Fred down beside Melissa, and brought him a blanket, which Fred politely refused, being hot enough as it was. Then Borgatron brought them a platter of roasted cavefish and some oddly tasty fungus tea. As the humans ate, the robot related his tale. He had been helping Professor Zarf design a dimension-travelling machine. But an experiment had gone horribly awry, and Borgatron was teleported here along with much of the Professor's lab.

"That was twenty years ago." said Borgatron. "I assume the Professor has given up searching for me by now. My life here in these caves has been peaceful, but hardly stimulating. Why don't you let me come with you? I specialize in conceptual calculus and demolitions."

Fred says:

  1. "Of course you can come with us!"
  2. "No thanks, we're doing fine on our own."
