The Never Ending Quest - Episode 23650

Fred took the left-hand branch of the underground river. At least if the current had taken Melissa that way, the light from the phosphorescent lichen would give him a chance of spotting her. She could not survive for long in the freezing water, though. If he did not find her very soon, it would be too late.

Then he came to a bend of the stream. A sandbank had accumulated at the outer edge of the flow, and in the rock wall behind it there was a tunnel, offering a possible means of escape.

  1. Melissa's body had been washed up on the sandbank. She lay face down. Was she alive?
  2. A line of footprints crossed the sand, heading away from the water's edge and towards the tunnel.
