On the Run

The mounted guards would have quickly ridden them down, had they not been brought to a standstill by the milling crowd which filled the full width of the alley and blocked their way. The mob itself was too disorganised to move very fast, with some urging boldness and some counselling caution, but none of them too eager to be in the lead in the chase, in case the demons should turn on them.

1. Irena saw another narrow alley leading off to the right, and she led Fred into it.
2. As luck would have it, who should be approaching them along the street but Brothers Stephen, Thomas and Richard of the White Hand. "That must be them!" Brother Thomas exclaimed.
