Continued Interrogation

Fred was at first confounded, it was such an odd thing to ask in this circumstance, but then he felt an awareness within himself, an itching within his mind, a tingling within his guts. He then "felt" an answer and without knowing, without comprehending, he simply acted: "The Way of Wisdom begins with a single step, a step of pure awe; The Way of Wisdom makes Her Way alone; The Way of Wisdom is full of passion, full of pain; The Way of Wisdom is the Path of Peace, the Path of Reconciliation." By this time Fred's whole frame was trembling and wracked in sweat.

Irena simply stared at him in awe and surprise, as did the Captain (although with as much disgust as with surprise). Father Benedict's eyes widened as did the smile on his lips. "This man is not so blind as he appears to be," he said.

After a few uncomfortable seconds of silence the Captain resumed. "Regardless of his philosophy the man appears to me to be nothing more than a brigand, a liar, most probably a thief. He spins wild yarns and expects his silvery tongue to free his way."

"But we are telling the truth!" said Irena with renewed energy. "We mean no one harm, my.... my 'Master' is a blind man of... of honorable birth... we have traveled far and wide and we seek only to subdue the evil of the land... this is all true, you must believe us."

Captain Alaric looked at both of them even more incredulously than before. "Again I ask you, tell me why you are here, what are your intentions."
