"He did tell me that. He also told me that my enemies were closer than I knew, in which he was right enough." He looked at Belinda and Carola, who could not meet his gaze.

"But he did not tell us who those enemies were," Astra said. "Not that I'd have believed him," she added bitterly.

"That was just his paranoia," the Dragon responded. "He will have had no idea that your sisters were going to deliver you to me."

Drawing their swords, Fred and Astra prepared to take on the Dragon in combat, though they feared that it was all but hopeless. Better a quick death than survival as prisoners of the Dragon, though. Being unarmed, Belinda and Carola stood off to one side and watched.
