The two of them easily cover several miles of ground on their way to the caves. As they travel, Fred and Alicia talk about why Alicia is helping Fred. "It's not as simple as you think." Alicia says. "The dragon steals from us. Steals part of our very souls. It's...how he transforms normal humans. When I met you and found out what you are doing, I had to come with. My parents are going to be so worried." Fred contemplates this. An hour later they come to a small hill. A muddy road crests it. To their backs is a thick wood even they would have trouble crossing. Ahead is a valley, rich in farmland. The other side, the mountains, is where the dragon makes its lair. The villagers who live here are considered traitors by the most part, but live unaffected by the dragon. He only steals their livestock, instead of their people.
