Could it be no more than a coincidence to find figures that seemingly
represent me, Checkers and - I suppose - the princess? Fred wonders.
If so, then it is surely a most remarkable one. But if it is a portent
of some kind, then I have no idea what it signifies. The workmanship is
exquisite, and the gold statue in particular must be very valuable. Why is
it sealed in that translucent substance, though? Is it a kind of glass? Or
perhaps it's some sort of crystal. Is it supposed to protect the statue
from harm? I think that it spoils the piece, as it prevents it from being
seen clearly.
Experimentally, Fred gives the block of glass-like substance a gentle tap with the pommel of his sword.
