Weirdness Part Two

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 2278

This couldn't be happening! The daughter of the King was dead! The Princess, a mistress of magick at that, was dead and Fred let it happen!

~~The shit is gonna hit the fan!~~ thought Fred.

There he was, kneeling with the unmoving body of the King's daughter, a knight of the Great Kingdom surrounded by a naked, talking teenage boy and a second naked princess tied up with chains to the tunnel wall. Sir Fred really, really wished he was back at jousting class!

~~At least things couldn't get any worse~~ thought Fred.

Just then a great grey mist flooded the tunnel and Fred found it impossible to see anything! "Velus!" he cried out, but could hear no clear response. A great noise began to fill the tunnel, a rumbling, a roaring, a breathing so fierce it hurt the eardrums. Fred got the aweful feeling that it was the wyrm come to get him.

"Lord Frederigo of the House D'Honaire!" yelled out a terrible voice.

Fred trembled in the fog and nearly pissed his armor.

"Get up Lord Fred!" boomed out the voice. "Get up and face your worst NIGHTMARE!!!"

Fred closed his eyes, all sense of strength and courage fleeing his frail frame. He felt something touch his shoulder, a claw? He could feel the hot breath of some monster upon his cheek.

"Get up I say!" screamed the voice. "You haven't got all day! Your food will get cold! Your father will be left waiting! and your audience begins at midday!"

~~Huh?~~

Fred opened one eye and to his amazement the fog had disappeared, leaving only his grey woolen blanket; no monster was there but his mother in its stead. He looked about, he was in his own room! He was home in Suffex! He was in the Manor D'Honaire and not in the Southern Caves!!!

"Get up you sleepy clod! By midday you will listen to your King and he will send you on a great quest. You mustn't begin the day on a bad standing you know! Are you nervous? Did you have a bad dream on the eve before your journey? Do not worry, it's not like the King is going to send you off to kill the dragon or anything! He'll probably make you an emissary to Hespan or Corgan or maybe even to the Kingdom of the Floating Isles!"

With that his mother left his breakfast of goat's milk and oats upon the table while Lord Fred scratched his head.

  1. Fred had the strangest feeling that he wasn't going to be sent as emissary to the Floating Isles.
