It was a confusing ten or so minutes when the middle-aged woman appeared
on the island. Bethany had recognized Velus right away, despite his new
form. Later she explained how she was so happy to find her son alive she
did not care what he looked like. Well after the tears and the hugs and the confusion was past, the three learned her story. A rogue magician named Malbot had been using politics, bribery and assination to gether seemingly legitimate power. Bethany, having opened up a bakery after Velus vanished (to fill the time), had been approached by some of Malbot's men one night, a few minutes before closing time. They talked about what she had done with the place and how it would be a shame if such an enterprise came to ruin. Such as a fire. Or vandalism. Quite naturally, a weekly payment to Malbot would make sure this did not happen. Bethany had beaten all of them severely with the pushbroom. (Bethany had grown up in an outlaw band headed by a noble rogue named Rhobarn and had learned much in the way of fighting). Bethany had fallen asleep that night, gaurded by friends and had woken up on the island. Now what?
