Innocence

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 22561

"Because..." began the Snark, "when I make a promise I follow through."

With that the Snark whispered to an attendant who summarily left. Those who were left just waited. Fred and Astra weren't sure what they were waiting for, but they wished it would end soon for you see, the Snark decided to spend his [her?] time whistling. Now, to the Snark it was a beautious sound, but to anyone else...well....

"Will you stop that horrid sound!?!" yelled Fred.

The Snark looked at Fred and whistled all the louder. The guards (some of whom were human, others undeterminant) gave Fred a look of disgust and anger. Was it because Fred dared speak to their Master so? or because the end result of Fred's outburst was even louder whistling?

Finally the attendant came back, and with him a child. "Boy," said the Snark. "Wanna see something scary?"

The boy-child wasn't sure how to respond, he already had a look of fear on his face.

"C'mere," said the Snark and as the boy did, the Snark unfolded enough of the bandage-wrappings about his face for the child to see. What transpired next is hard to describe. Suffice it to say that there was a lot of screaming, crying, giggling, screaming, yelling, flailing of arms, pouting, wailing, kicking of legs, screaming, twitching, ounding, convulsing and...did I say, screaming? What was left of the boy was huddled in a fetal position in the mud.

"See," said the Snark. "Innocent Number One. Wanna go two-for-two?"

"No!" yelled Astra and Fred simultaneously.

"You gonna carry out my mission when you get into the future?"

  1. "Yes," they say with sorrow.
  2. "Uh-huh" they say. "Hey," said the Snark, was that a 'yes' uh-huh or a 'no' uh-huh...I can't read minds ya'know."
  3. "Maybe," they say coyly.
