Lord Fred dropped the book in astonishment. Astra had changed into a giant dog! She was three feet tall, five feet long and hairy as a barmaid's mop. Her fur was had turned as golden as the finest beer. Her snout and face were that of a labrador retriever but her tail was that of an Irish Setter. Whatever this creature's supposed lineage, it sure was mixed!
"Astra!" said an unfamilar voice. She looked to her left. Velus was talking! "You can talk?" "With humans, it's that goofy system of yes and no. But since you've turned into a canine, presumably by that scroll the dragon used on me, we can talk." Astra turned to Fred. "Can you understand me?" she said. All that came out was "Woof! Woof! Woof!" "Dammit!" she swore. "Hopefully one of these books Fred stole has at the very least, a translation spell."
