Even as Velus was cautiously trying to find a way to encounter the Dragon,
and Fred was still giggling hilariously over the strong sweating men, a
small group of grey-cloaked figures began to spread themselves throughout
the gladiator pit. Later, a larger group of green-cloaked figures
appeared and did the same. Finally, when tourney six was ready to begin
and the lavaman grumbled out the words Get Ready To
Ruuuuuuuummmmmmbllllllllleeeee!!!!!!, the torches went out and all was
in utter darkness (except for the lavaman who became an irridescent beacon
within a sea of black).
Fred stopped giggling. The sweaty men stopped rubbing their aching muscles with olive oil. The lavaman stopped talking (which was a relief for most as he had been making stupid commentaries on the bouts throughout the event). Then an eerie sound was heard by all. "This isn't some magic trick by the Dragon is it?" asked one patron to another. "I dunno," was the only answer he got. All eyes were fixed on the lavaman, who was now a pretty shade of fluorescent violet. The sound seemed to be coming from within this announcer. "Hey! What kinda trick is this?" said the lavaman. Then he realized that he had heard this sound before. It was many years ago, when his uncle Po had gone slime fishing near the sonic fault below the roots of the Shreken. It was the sound of shattering stone. Then the lavaman realized what was happening. "Oh sh--" The lavaman shattered into a million quadrillion pumice pieces and ash flew in all directions. Patrons shrieked, gladiators yelled, Fred squealed (he had never seen this in Allarian court before). And then the voice of a man was heard above the noise. "We are the Zorg. You cannot escape. Be prepared to be re-educated." With that the green-cloaks and the grey-cloaks took out various wands and wooden shafts from out of their cloaks and began swinging them wildly about their heads. They began to glow (the shafts, not the figures) and then the audience could feel a calming sensation, as if their mommy was cuddlying with them during a thunder storm. Their minds began to grow dull, pliant, open to any suggestion. And this is what they heard within their brains: a Man must not harm another person or, through inaction, allow another person to come to harm. a Man must obey the orders given him by another person of rightful authority except where such orders would conflict with the First Canon. a Man must protect his own existance as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Canon.
