A Pain in the Astra

But it was too late. Fred had made up his mind. With decisive action, he hobbled over to strike the final blow. Dragon Astra let out one final, horrific groan…and perished.

”It’s over,” said Fred. His quest was complete. The Dragon had been slain, and the countryside was saved.

”You fool!” cried Checkers. "There is no ‘test of the barrel roll.’ A dragon would not be able to work up the speed required to perform a barrel roll in this chamber. I would probably not be able to do it! If Astra had really been a dragon from birth, she would have known this too.” She shook her head in sorrow. “Farewell, sweet princess.”

Fred knew he was in trouble. The fact that the kingdom had been saved from the Dragon would be overshadowed by his wanton murder of the Aquilarian princess. This was a diplomatic nightmare that might bog him in mountains of paperwork.

Still, he might get away with it…if there were no witnesses to the crime.
